Can you flush paper towels down the toilet?

A common issue in public toilets, commercial bathrooms and early childcare education centres is blocked drains. This is often caused by adults and children putting paper towels into toilets and flushing them.

If the toilet is near the sink then users can be tempted to pop their paper towel into the toilet.

Paper towels will clog toilets and block drains. 

Why do paper towels clog toilets?

Regular paper towels will not dissolve in a toilet system.

Paper towels are designed to absorb and hold water, not break down quickly.

While they may flush away out of sight they are likely to expand in the water and can easily get stuck in your drains and create a backlog. You might be lucky if this happens occassionally and not have any issues, but continual disposal this way will create a problem.

This can result in a nasty and expensive blockage.

How can I unblock my toilet?

You may be able to unblock this yourself with a plunger but it is more likely that you will require e plumber to unblock the drain which can be very costly.

It seems that no matter how many signs you put up in the toilets asking people not to flush their paper towels, they will continue to do so!
